Summer Camps at Spiritual Twist Productions

Keeping kids engaged, learning and growing in their faith all summer!

By Leslie Hanna, Executive Director - Spiritual Twist Productions June 27, 2019

School is out, the weather is heating up, and before long, your children will be wondering what they should do on their seemingly endless summer days. “I’m bored!” they’ll exclaim, and you will wonder why you didn’t look for summer camp options earlier in the year. Have we got great news for you! Spiritual Twist Productions in Garner has summer camp opportunities for children from ages 7-12, and they have a spot just for your children! Spiritual Twist is offering summer day camp experiences in a safe learning environment that will keep your children engaged, learning, and laughing from 9 am to 4 pm each day.

Meg Hanna, STP Summer Camp Director, worked as an intern at Camp Mini-Yo-We in Ontario, Canada for 14 months, and was inspired to create a camp opportunity that keeps children engaged and off their screens. “Summer is the time to learn and explore,” Hanna says, “and parents need a place for children to do just that. Our day camps give parents a safe place to bring their children, and we assure them that they will be having fun all day. One of the highlights of our camp is that it is screen-free. There is no time for phones and tablets. We are busy learning, playing games and creating all day long. If we watch a video, it’s less than thirty minutes and ties directly to what we are learning that week.

During Movement Mania week, campers learned rhythm, ballet, tap and musical theater from four different instructors in the morning and presented several choreographed dances for parents at the end of the week. The afternoons were spent learning about the human body, including making a model of a blood cell, learning about the nervous, skeletal and muscular systems and compiling it all in a booklet of facts that they discovered. There was time for outdoor games, indoor guided free time, and plenty of conversation during crafts.

Parents of Movement Mania campers were excited to find an affordable camp option that was so engaging. One mom, whose family is new to STP, was surprised at how much her son loved camp. She shared that he had been afraid to try something new this summer, but when she picked him up after his first day, he wouldn’t stop talking about camp. He was up bright and early on Tuesday, ready to go back for more fun. As a teacher, she was impressed with the organization of the daily schedule and that instructional times were geared for students with multiple learning styles.

This week, Tim and Wendy Boone of Stillwater Camp Ministry are leading Esther-Ordinary Faith mini-production camp. Campers are learning lines, music and movement and will produce a short musical at the end of the week that tells the story of Queen Esther and how her faith saved a nation. Campers are having a blast playing carpet ball and theater games and making crafts that they will use in their performance. Tim and Wendy have volunteered at STP for years and are excited to lead camp this week and later in the summer. Join us for our free Esther-Ordinary Faith performance Friday, June 28 at 7:30 pm, and our Fish Tales performance on Friday, August 9 at 7:30 pm.

Five weeks of camp at Spiritual Twist Productions remain and there is a camp for every kid! July 8-12 is Creation Exploration, a camp that explores the wonders of God’s creation through music, movement, games, experiments, and crafts. July 15-19 is Art for Everyone, where guest artists will teach art in a variety of mediums, campers will learn about famous artists, and parents will enjoy an art show featuring student creations at the end of the week. During We Can Be Storytellers (July 22-26), campers will learn how Jesus used stories to communicate big messages with simplicity, and the week will give students to test out their storytelling skills through photography, writing, dance and more! If you have an adventurer in your family, then perhaps Around the World in 80 Days (July 29-August 2) is the camp for you! Campers will have the chance to learn about different cultures through games, dance and music, make ethnic food, and even meet a missionary or two. Fish Tales, our second mini-production camp is full.
